Ahead of Estonia’s Independence Day, the President of the Republic will decorate 151 people for their services to Estonia. Among others, the Order of the Estonian Red Cross will be awarded to long-time midwife Ülle Višnevski, and the Order of the White Star will be awarded to Peeter Ross, Head of TalTech Digital Health master’s programme, the health information system and the patient portal digilugu.ee and an internationally renowned e-health expert and radiologist and Head of the Research Department at East Tallinn Central Hospital.

“Ahead of the Independence Day, the Republic of Estonia will express its highest level of gratitude – by awarding a state decoration – to people whose everyday activities are constantly contributing to better care, recognition and protection in Estonia,” President Alar Karis wrote in the foreword of the decision to award state decorations.

“The decoration of the President of the Republic is certainly a great recognition to the people close to me and to my colleagues at TalTech and the Hospital as well,” Peeter Ross emphasised. “Whatever I earned such great recognition for, I would like to particularly highlight the launch of several important projects such as the health information system or the e-health system, while working at East Tallinn Central Hospital.”

“This is a big surprise! Of course, I am happy to have been noticed, this feels great,” Ülle Višnevski said when the entire hospital board and her closest colleagues came to congratulate her.

Chairman of the board Tarmo Bakler: “Today is the day that brings joy to us all. I am very glad to see the people who have been witnessing the most important moments in people’s lives for fifty years and perhaps have not had as much attention as they truly deserve, being noticed. Congratulations!”

The President of the Republic will present the state decorations at the Estonian National Museum on 21 February and the event will be broadcast on the Estonian Public Broadcasting television channel on 24 February.
