Centre of Gastroenterology
The Gastroenterology Centre of East Tallinn Central Hospital performs diagnostics and treatment of digestive tract diseases, including diagnostics and treatment of liver and pancreatic diseases. We are the largest unit specialising in gastrointestinal diseases in Northern Estonia. It is our goal to be the most patient-friendly and professional gastroenterology service in Estonia.
In the Inpatient Department, we treat patients for whom the treatment and diagnostics at home are not possible. In the Day Care Clinic, we provide multiple studies and treatment procedures, after which surveillance of the patient is needed, for example, biological treatment, liver biopsy and also endoscopic studies performed under anaesthesia. In the Outpatient Clinic of Gastroenterology, the outpatient gastroenterologist appointments and also, the independent nurse appointments (consulting patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, diet consulting) are held.
In the Endoscopy Department, we perform endoscopic examinations and treatment procedures: gastroscopy, coloscopy, balloon enteroscopy, endoscopic sonography, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, etc. We have introduced multiple endoscopic studies and treatment methods in Estonia for years. For instance, the first balloon endoscopy of the Baltic states was performed at our centre. In the last few years, we have conducted painless coloscopy training for doctors and endoscopy nurses in collaboration with our partners.
Endoscopic examination can also be performed under anaesthesia, if necessary. Within the framework of the colon cancer screening study, we provide a “screening coloscopy” to discover the colon cancer risk patients early on and thereby reduce colon cancer prevalence and its mortality.
We have been open as an independent centre since 1968. Despite our accomplishments, we still wish to move at the same pace as today’s medical skills and knowledge in order to provide the earliest possible, effective and comfortable diagnostics and treatment for our patients.
