Phoniatrics and laryngology

The office of laryngology was established in 1987. Since 2010, we have been the first centre dealing with functional voice disorders in Estonia that is in compliance with international standards. The laryngologist at the voice disorder office uses the newest video-endoscopic apparatus and stroboscopy to diagnose the diseases of the larynx and vocal cords. Speech therapists are also a part of the voice disorders office team.

The cabinet of voice research has carried out joint research with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Tallinn University and the Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu.

The doctors and nurses in the unit of ear-nose-throat diseases are lectors at the training of East Tallinn Central Hospital as well as outside of it for colleagues and the specialists and nurses for other fields.

The ear-nose-throat and otolaryngology services are broad-based – starting from regular consultations to complex microsurgical otolaryngological surgeries and to endoscopic paranasal sinus surgeries and nose plastic surgery.

The centre is a study and practice base for the residents of otorhinolaryngology of the University of Tartu's medical faculty. In addition, we are a training centre for otorhinolaryngologists, general practitioners, allergists and for other residents. We are a practice base for the nursing students of Tallinn And Tartu Health Care College.

The center's nurses fit and install hearing aids, deal with the training of patients with dizziness, consult patients before surgery and do rhinomanometry.
