Aleksander Trošin has been working as the Chief Physician of the Centre for Infertility Treatment since its establishment in 1996.

He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tartu in 1984. After graduation, he engaged in research and teaching at the Department of Microbiology of the University of Tartu. In the field of infertility treatment, he has trained in the Women’s Clinic of Tartu University Hospital; Karolinska University Hospital, in Sweden; IVI Valencia Clinic, in Spain (Clínica de Fertilidad y Reproducción Asistida), and other recognised clinics in Europe.

Aleksander Trošin organises the work of the IVF laboratory of the Centre for Infertility Treatment, as well as male reproductive health diagnostics.

Dr. Trošin also conducts individual and group trainings for embryologists, organises workshops, as well as involvement of the centre’s IVF laboratory and participation in scientific, including international, research projects.

He is one of the creators of the first Estonian-language digital textbook on fertility.ee.

Aleksander Trošin is a member of the Estonian Society of Fertility Treatment and Embryology, and the non-profit organization Baltic Fertility Society (BFS).

Kristjan Pomm

Urologist - Andrologist

Kristjan Pomm graduated from the University of Tartu in 1997, he has completed an andrology-urology residency and holds a clinical andrologist certificate from the European Academy of Andrology.

Dr. Pomm has long-term experience as an andrologist. He has worked for many years as an andrologist at the Andrology Clinic of the Tartu University Clinic in Tallinn, the Centre for Infertility Treatment of East Tallinn Central Hospital, and the Nova Vita clinic. He previously also worked as a counsellor for young men at the Tallinn Sexual Health Clinic.

Kristjan Pomm has participated in many international conferences and trainings related to infertility treatment and andrology, he has developed his professional skills at the clinics of the University of Florence, in Italy, and the University of La Sapienza, in Rome. Kristjan Pomm has given presentations at seminars and conferences on andrology and male infertility treatment and has published articles related to men’s health. Kristjan Pomm was a doctoral student at the University of Tartu from 2008–2014, the topic of his doctoral thesis was ‘Causes of Male Infertility in Estonia’.

Dr. Pomm is a member of the European Academy of Andrology, the European Association of Urology, the Estonian Urological Society , the Estonian Society for Dermatovenereologists (board member), the Estonian Society of Fertility Treatment and Embryology (board member), and the Estonian Sexual Health Association.

Tiina Loog

Gynaecologist, Head of the Centre for Infertility Treatment

Tiina Loog is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tartu, and completed her subordination in obstetrics and gynaecology.

She has been dealing with infertility problems since 1996. Since that time, she has been working as the Head of the Centre for Infertility Treatment of East Tallinn Central Hospital.

Dr. Loog has developed herself professionally on a regular basis at various international trainings in Estonia, Europe and the United States.

Tiina Loog is a member of ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology), the Estonian Society of Fertility Treatment and Embryology, and the non-profit association Baltic Fertility Society (BFS).

Ruth Essi

Midwife, head of midwifery

Ruth Essi graduated as a midwife from Tallinn Health Care College and received training in infertility treatment at the Väestöliitto infertility clinic, in Helsinki. She has developed herself professionally on a regular basis at various international trainings in Estonia, Europe and the United States.

Essi has been working at the Centre for Infertility Treatment of East Tallinn Central Hospital, as the Head of Midwifery, since the establishment of the centre (1996).

In addition to the daily organisation of the work of the Centre for Infertility Treatment, she deals with infertility treatment counselling and infertility treatment procedures.

Ruth Essi is a member of the Estonian Midwives Association, the Estonian Society of Fertility Treatment and Embryology, and the Baltic Fertility Society (BFS).

Anneli Kärema is a midwife at our Maternity Hospital with more than 30 years of work experience as a midwife in the maternity department of the Women’s Clinic and at the Maternity Counselling Centre. Annely has been updating her knowledge and skills in various countries and has attended professional training courses and learned about the course of physiologic childbirth, the management of water birth and the causes of any potential risks.
Annely speaks Estonian, Russian and English.
As a midwife, Annely wants to support women and their families throughout the pregnancy and childbirth period. She also makes home visits after childbirth if necessary. In her work, she seeks to observe the principles of natural childbirth because she believes in the ability of a woman to give birth naturally by following her instincts and using her inner strength. Annely is the mother of two sons.

Siiri Ennika is a midwife at our Maternity Hospital with more than 20 years of work experience as a midwife in the maternity department of the Women’s Clinic. Siiri has completed various refresher courses and professional training classes to update her knowledge. She has also taken a number of training courses in complementary medicine.

Siiri speaks Estonian and Russian.

She was interested in becoming a midwife at a young age already. According to her, it is heart-warming to be touched by the miracle of pregnancy and childbirth. Her own childbirths and years of work experience have taught her the nature and soul of childbirth, as well as how fragile and delicate a woman is during childbirth. Siiri wants to respect the freedom of choice of every woman and family and to respect their personal decisions deeply. She wants to provide support and compassion for every woman on the journey of becoming, and being, a mother.

Anneli speaks Estonian, Russian, German and a little English.

As a midwife, she has been improving and updating her knowledge in a variety of fields including alternative medicine, Chinese medicine, and mental health topics. Her aim is to ensure that childbirth is as natural and safe as possible, and she wants to support families in their choices at one of the most important moments of their life.

Both as a midwife and as a person, she feels it is important to constantly learn and improve, to avoid getting stuck in a comfort zone.

Anneli says that the work of a midwife is never boring and that life should always be exciting and challenging.

Joanna Nahku is a graduate of Tallinn University of Technology’s master’s studies programme in genetic engineering. She has developed herself professionally on a regular basis at various international trainings both in Estonia and Europe.

Joanna Nahku has been working as an embryologist at the Centre for Infertility Treatment of East Tallinn Central Hospital since 2007. Thus, she has very long-term experience in all in vitro fertilization procedures (IUI/IVF/ICSI) as well as the freezing and thawing of embryos, eggs and sperm.

Joanna Nahku is a member of the Estonian Society of Fertility Treatment and Embryology, and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).
