Centre for Infertility Treatment
The goal of the Centre for Infertility Treatment of East Tallinn Central Hospital is to help infertile couples. In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is the most commonly used method of fertility treatment in the world. Births from IVF represent 3-5 percent of all babies born in Estonia. IVF involves fertilising eggs in a laboratory dish to create embryos, which are then transferred into the uterus.
We have been providing fertility treatment since 1996. In 26 years, we have performed 9277 IVF procedures and 4178 frozen embryo transfers. 3106 babies have been born with our assistance.
Our long-term experience, extensive knowledge and skills make it possible to use the latest methods of fertility treatment. If you have wanted and tried to get pregnant but have been unable to do so within a year, we suggest booking an appointment with our gynaecologists. Various tests are carried out for both women and men to identify the causes of infertility. Then, treatment can begin. Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, midwife appointments take place for consultation and tests.
There is no need for a referral to book an appointment. It is recommended that you come to the appointment with your partner.
To come to the appointment, you need to book an appointment in advance:

What is infertility?
Infertility is defined as a situation where a couple has not developed pregnancy after at least a year of regular sexual activity or has not succeeded in carrying the pregnancy to a live birth. Infertility is a major social and emotional problem both for society and for the couple directly affected by it. According to various studies, the number of infertile couples in the population ranges from 15 to 20%, so the problem of infertility affects every fifth to sixth family in Estonia. It is believed that infertility is due to the health of the woman in 1 out of 3 cases, due to the health of the man in 1 out of 3 cases and, in approximately 1 out of 3 cases, it is combined infertility or the reason remains unclear. In developed societies, the exact cause usually remains unclear since there are thousands of factors that affect fertility and not all of them can be assessed. When seeking fertility treatment, we first try to identify the reason for infertility and then a suitable treatment method can be selected.
How effective is fertility treatment?
From the start of our activities in 1996 to this day, the number of IVF procedures at the Centre for Infertility Treatment has increased by a factor of more than ten. The effectiveness of treatment and the number of pregnancies both increase in conjunction with advancements in fertility treatment. Our Centre has modern equipment with extensive capabilities. We use the most effective treatment methods recognised around the world. If indicated, it is possible to use donor gametes (egg cells, sperm cells).

What is egg donation?
Egg donation is a process in which a woman voluntarily donates her eggs to an infertile couple or woman for the purpose of assisted reproduction. For many women, egg donation is the only way to have children. Donor eggs are approved for assisted reproduction in women aged 18-50. Donor eggs may be used for a number of medical indications, including ovarian insufficiency, early menopause, chemotherapy or radiation or previous failed attempts to conceive via assisted reproductive technology.
