East Tallinn Central Hospital to open COVID department on Friday
On 24 September, East Tallinn Central Hospital will reopen a department specialised in the treatment of patients with COVID-19. The department will include 29 COVID beds, five of which will be equipped for grade II intensive care. The hospital has two beds for grade III intensive care. The new department will be opened in the premises of the Centre of Internal Medicine on Ravi Street.
According to East Tallinn Central Hospital Board Member and Head of Treatment Ene Halling, more and more COVID patients need hospital treatment. “Unfortunately, we are seeing a growing need for COVID beds and must make rearrangements. The department to be opened is ready to admit patients 24/7. Considering the risk of infection, the route of COVID patients through the hospital is carefully planned out,” says Halling.
Given the current circumstances, planned treatment has been restricted in areas of internal medicine such as cardiology, neurology and gastroenterology. Other planned treatment will proceed in East Tallinn Central Hospital to the extent possible, but the hospital’s Crisis Board is monitoring the situation on a daily basis to make decisions on the continuation of planned treatment as the situation evolves. The Women’s Clinic and the Eye Clinic are also prepared to admit COVID patients.
