Screening test for syphilis bacterium (T. pallidum)
Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum.
The source of infection is an infected person and transmission is primarily sexual. The infection starts with a painless ulcer forming at the entry site of the pathogen, an untreated infection will progress. Syphilis diagnosis starts with a screening test. If the screening test result is “Referred for confirmation”, a confirmative test is necessary. After having syphilis, the antibodies remain for years.
