On 15 February, operation room nurses celebrate the European Perioperative Nursing Day at the behest of the European Operating Room Nurses Association (EORNA).

According to Head of Nursing at East Tallinn Central Hospital Centre for Surgery Lia Lind, every minute is precisely accounted for in the Centre for Surgery. “Patients are often unaware of the preparations made before an operation. And yet, patient safety relies on faithfully following the rules, ensuring seamless work organisation and good teamwork,” says Lind about what goes on behind the scenes.

Colleagues confirm that Lia has created a working environment where everyone feels comfortable and patients feel cared for. She is able to train and coach colleagues and copes well in unexpected and difficult situations.

New and up-to-date IT solutions play an important role in the hospital’s Centre for Surgery, enabling the use of patient examination databases, the recording and display of operations as well as direct consultation with specialists from other areas outside the operating theatre.

On average, 8000 general surgery, urology, orthopaedics and lumbar spine surgery operations and procedures are performed in East Tallinn Central Hospital Centre for Surgery every year. Ear, nose and throat specialists also operate in the operation rooms of the hospital’s Magdaleena Unit and in the Women’s Clinic and Eye Clinic.
