On Thursday, 14 July 2022, the Centre of Emergency Medicine of East Tallinn Central Hospital at Ravi 18 will relocate from its temporary container campus in the courtyard of the hospital to newly completed premises. As a result, the Centre of Emergency Medicine will be closed for 12 hours from 8 in the morning. Patients with eye problems are exempt and can turn to the Eye Clinic of East Tallinn Central Hospital for emergency appointments during relocation.

East Tallinn Central Hospital therefore asks all those in need of emergency care on 14 July to turn to the emergency medicine centres of West Tallinn Central Hospital or the North Estonia Medical Centre. Ambulances will also be taking patients to the specified centres.

The Centre of Emergency Medicine of East Tallinn Central Hospital will be fully functional from 20:00 on 14 July. After that, all patients will be welcome in the new premises of the Centre of Emergency Medicine.

The Centre of Emergency Medicine of East Tallinn Central Hospital will first be made available for patients with eye problems.

The reception desk of the Centre of Emergency Medicine will start in the new premises at 08:00 on the morning of 14 July and will only admit patients with emergency eye problems during the first 12 hours, directing them to the Eye Clinic of East Tallinn Central Hospital for assistance.

“As part of the relocation efforts, all the equipment and devices needed to provide emergency care will be moved to the new premises, making us unable to see patients on site. However, we are prepared in case people with severe health issues, who cannot be referred to other hospitals due to their condition, end up reaching us. In such an event, the different departments of our hospital will help the patients,” says Dr Külvar Mand, Head of the Centre of Emergency Medicine at East Tallinn Central Hospital.

According to Dr Mand, patients with emergency eye problems are the only exception to receive assistance from the Eye Clinic of East Tallinn Central Hospital as the only specialist hospital on the day of relocation on 14 July. “All other patients will be asked to turn to the emergency departments of the North Estonia Medical Centre or West Tallinn Central Hospital until 20:00 on that day because we will be unable to provide emergency care during the relocation process,” says Dr Mand.

The renovation of the Centre of Emergency Medicine of East Tallinn Central Hospital started in 2021 and was completed this summer. During the €5 million renovation, the ground and underground floors of the Centre were rebuilt. Construction work improved the Centre’s capacity for isolation and staff security levels. The building is now in line with the requirements of the Estonian Rescue Board

Hospital employees will have larger and more spacious rooms to work in, allowing for more convenient and faster service for patients, faster diagnostics and shorter waiting times. The Centre’s capacity for dealing with emergency situations has improved noticeably. The Centre of Emergency Medicine of East Tallinn Central Hospital is the most modern emergency care centre in Estonia.
