East Tallinn Central Hospital to suspend planned treatment from 10 February

East Tallinn Central Hospital will temporarily suspend planned inpatient treatment from 10 February. This is due to the need to increase the hospital's capacity to provide hospital care for COVID-19 patients. Emergency services, day care (incl. oncology), day surgery and outpatient admissions will continue to the extent possible.

"The rapid rise in infection numbers has led to a need for additional COVID-beds, because in addition to patients diagnosed with COVID-19, we are seeing a significant rise in patients suffering from COVID-19 as a concomitant condition, but who also need to be isolated. At the same time, many of our employees have also fallen ill. Since the opening of COVID beds requires additional staff, we were forced to decide to suspend planned inpatient care. This is the only way we will be able to ensure emergency inpatient capacity as well as the treatment of COVID patients," says Ene Halling, board member and head of treatment of East Tallinn Central Hospital.

The hospital will personally contact all patients whose treatment appointments are to be postponed.

As of the morning of 9 February, there are 49 COVID patients admitted in East Tallinn Central Hospital. The hospital's Crisis Board is monitoring the situation on a daily basis to make decisions on potential changes to the restrictions.
