East Tallinn Central Hospital will limit scheduled inpatient treatment for internal and surgical medicine as of 22 October.  This is due to the increased need to care for patients with COVID-19.

According to Board Member and Head of Treatment Ene Halling, the situation is dire and calls for further rearrangements to the hospital’s operations. “We see infection numbers go up daily. All of this has led to an increased need for hospitalisation among COVID-patients. We are forced to limit inpatient care and open a second COVID department to solve the situation.”

The hospital will personally contact all patients whose treatment appointments are to be postponed.

East Tallinn Central Hospital is currently treating 52 COVID patients. The second COVID department to be opened will add another 24 beds. Emergency care and scheduled treatment will proceed in the hospital to the extent possible, but the hospital’s Crisis Board is monitoring the situation on a daily basis to make decisions on potential new restrictions as the situation evolves.
