Today, 17 June, marks 14 years since the establishment of the East Tallinn Central Hospital breast milk donor bank and the start of breast milk donation in Estonia.

The warm, summery weather has resulted in an increased workload at the East Tallinn Central Hospital Emergency Medicine Centre: in addition to the usual household and workplace injuries, people are coming to the hospital with sports injuries. The workload of doctors has increased and waiting times are longer. Healthcare workers are therefore urging people to be aware of their limits when doing sports and always use safety equipment.

The primary recommendation for protecting yourself from the heat is to seek shade, cover your head, use sunscreen and drink plenty of fluids. Doctors also recommend reducing physical exertion and limiting time spent in the sun during periods of extreme heat.

The National Institute for Health Development (TAI) and the Estonian Urological Society are starting a feasibility study to assess whether it is possible to conduct a screening programme for the early detection of prostate cancer in Estonia, considering men’s individual risk of developing the disease.
