Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is a procedure which allows for a visual assessment of the condition of airways. The bronchoscope is an endoscopic instrument which is guided orally through the throat into the windpipe, i.e. trachea, and bronchi.

Tests and treatment are both indications for bronchoscopy:

  • diagnosis of neoplastic diseases; taking of samples; collection of bronchial aspirate or bronchoalveolar lavage liquid for analysis; lung disease diagnostics;
  • searching for bleeding and its sources in the bronchi.
